Louisville Distilling Company has announced the limited-edition release of the Angel’s Envy Cask Strength Finished in Port Wine Barrels.

The drink is now available in select markets in 20 US states.

The company claimed that every year it selects a handful of its barrels good enough for the Cask Strength’s lengthy finishing process. All its previous limited releases were sold quickly, the firm added.

Louisville Distilling Company will release 8,000 bottles.

According to the company Angel’s Envy is a premium whiskey, aged up to seven years to the 'perfect' level of richness and maturity. Only a few of those barrels reach the high Cask Strength standards.

The handful barrels are then blended and go through a lengthier finishing process in Portuguese port wine casks.

Angel’s Envy chief innovation officer Wes Henderson said: “Cask Strength is a rare and remarkably complex bourbon unlike any other you’ve ever tried.

“It’s more than a limited release; it’s a significant whiskey event.”

The suggested retail price for a 750ml limited edition bottle is $179.99.
