US-based eco-friendly box wine producer Bota Box has expanded its premium 3l category with the addition of a new dark red blend, Nighthawk Black.

Crafted by the Delicato Family Vineyards, the full-bodied California dark red blend Bota Box Nighthawk Black combines the flavours of Zinfandel, Syrah and Petite Sirah.

Delicato Family Vineyards President and CEO Chris Indelicato said: "Bota Box Nighthawk Black fills a consumer need in the Premium 3-Liter Box wine category.

"As revealed by our recent 2015 Delicato Wine Insights study, Premium 3-Liter Box wine enthusiasts are also frequent consumers of 750ml wines priced $8-10.99 – a segment whose growth has been largely fuelled by red blends and particularly dark red blends.

"The launch of Nighthawk Black is the first to offer an alternative format premium 3-liter wine with the dark, lush concentrated fruit profile that consumers desire from a brand they trust."

The new wine will feature eco-friendly packaging made from unbleached, post-consumer fibre as the 12 other varietals in the Bota Box Premium 3-Liter suite.

Priced at $22.99, the new product will be available at selected retail stores across the nation in 3-liter Bota Box format in addition to Bota Mini 500ml Tetra Paks that will be available at $5.99 per unit, until the supplies last.

Launched in 2003, Bota Box produces 3-liter, 1.5-liter and 500ml premium wines.

Box wine market is expanding in the US due to cheaper pricing than the same wine in 750ml glass and longevity, reported Forbes.
